Situation
Possible Cause
Resolution
Blood pressure does not register.
Loose connection
BP hose is kinked, compressed, or
leaks
Defective cuff or hose
Incorrect cuff placement
Movement
1.
Check and tighten all connections.
2.
Straighten hose, remove source of
compression, or replace leaky hose.
3.
Replace cuff/hose.
4.
Show the patient how to properly place
cuff.
5.
Remind patient to remain still. (If needed,
place patient arm on a pillow for support.)
Blood pressure readings vary.
Verify blood pressure.
Incorrect technique
Verify BP by auscultation with the monitor’s
cuff.
Observe patient technique and retrain as
necessary:
Correct cuff size
Correct placement
Correct posture
Not talking or moving
Arm is at heart level
Oximeter is not connected to
monitor or patient.
Oximeter incorrectly positioned.
Poor patient perfusion.
Fingernail polish or false nails
are interfering with sensor
light.
Defective sensor or cable.
1.
Plug oximeter into plug receptacle and
make sure it firmly latches into place.
2.
Instruct the patient on proper placement.
3.
Reposition sensor on patient.
4.
Have patient remove finger nail polish or
false nails.
5.
Replace finger sensor.
Heart rate is very low or does not
register.
If the heart rate still does not register, call Honeywell HomMed Customer Service.
Sensor incorrectly positioned
Poor patient perfusion
Patient motion
Ambient light
Instruct patient to place sensor on the finger
with the finger design facing up.
Reposition sensor on patient.
Instruct patient to move hands prior to taking
measurement.
Apply a warm washcloth.
Dependant position.
Patient must be still for sensor to function
properly. Place extremity on a pillow for
support.
Shield sensor.
Pulse rate erratic, intermittent, or
incorrect.
If the SENSOR light remains on and monitor does not collect a reading, call Honeywell
HomMed Customer Service.
