Using Non-Toxic Antifreeze
Approximately five to eight gallons of
FDA approved antifreeze will be required to
winterize the motorhome.
WARNING
It is recommended that a qualified
RV service technician familiar with
motorhomes, such as an authorized
dealer, do this procedure.
POISON
Use only non-toxic FDA approved RV
antifreeze that is specifically made
for potable water systems. Do not
use automobile engine antifreeze. If
ingested, automobile antifreeze can
cause blindness, deafness or death.
CAUTION
Freeze damage is not covered under
warranty.
1. Empty and flush the holding tanks.
2. Drain the fresh water tank by opening
the winterization valve, fresh water
tank drain valve, and the secondary
fresh water tank low point drain
valve (if applicable).
3. Open the hot and cold water low
point drain valves.
CAUTION
Some appliances, such as an ice maker,
require special winterizing instructions
not covered in this section. Refer to the
specific appliance OEM manual for
instructions and recommendations.
4. Turn the water pump on for
approximately 30-60 seconds and
allow it to run so that all the water
is cleared out of the water pump and
fresh water tank. Turn water pump
off.
5. Open the water heater exterior access
panel. Open the high temperature/
pressure relief valve to vent water
heater. Remove water heater drain
plug to allow water heater to drain.
WARNING
Allow water heater to cool prior to
draining. Hot water can result in
serious burn injuries.
6. After the water is drained, place
water heater bypass valve to Bypass
position.
8. Replace the water heater drain plug
and close the pressure relief valve.
9. Close the low point drain valves and
fresh water tank drain valve.
CAUTION
Ensure the fresh water tank has
drained completely as antifreeze will
not enter the fresh water tank.
10. Open the winterization valve. Insert
winterization tube into the container
of FDA approved RV antifreeze.
11. Turn ON the water pump.
12. Open all faucets, one at a time, hot
and cold starting with the faucet
farthest from the pump, including
shower faucet. Turn faucets off when
a small amount of antifreeze appears.
13. Hold the toilet flush mechanism open
(flush toilet) until a small amount of
antifreeze appears.
14. Use a soft cloth to wipe out the sinks
and shower to protect surface from
antifreeze stains.
CAUTION
Clean up antifreeze spills immediately
to prevent permanent staining.
15. Open and close exterior faucet and
shower using the same procedures as
the interior faucets.
16. Turn water pump off.
