Normally Closed (NC) Release Valve Test  27

NORMALLY CLOSED (NC) RELEASE VALVE TEST

WARNING:  This  procedure  requires
that  the  plow  be  raised  and/or  low-
ered.  Stand  clear  of  plow  when  it  is

raised  and/or  lowered.  FAILURE  TO  HEED
THIS  WARNING  CAN  RESULT  IN  SERIOUS
PERSONAL INJURY.

WARNING:  Never  disconnect  any  hy-

draulic  line  or  fitting  with  the  unit  in

the  raised  position.  Always  lower  the

unit  and  relieve  pressure  before  removing
any  lines  or  caps.  Allow  the  system  to  cool
down before draining oil or handling system
components.  Serious  burns  can  result  from
contact with hot oil.

NOTE:

There  are  three  possible  failures  that

could cause the NC Release Valve Solenoid not
to operate. They are joystick, or associated wir-
ing, solenoid coil or cartridge valve.

PHOTO NO. 1000296B

1.  Hold  the  metal  end  of  a  screwdriver  about

1/8” from the coil nut.

2.  Move joystick to the Down position. The met-

al end of the screwdriver should be pulled to
the coil nut.

3.  If not, use a voltmeter to test for battery volt-

age  at  the  coil  terminal  when  joystick  is  in
Down position. See page 23.

4.  If battery voltage if present, replace the coil.

See page 15.

5.  If no voltage is indicated, check wiring, joy-

stick and grounds, repair or replace as nec-
essary.

6.  If above tests are satisfactory, replace car-

tridge valve. See page 15.
