Creating a Direct Connect Composable Fabric
You can directly connect FM 3180 modules using a QSFP28-to-QSFP28 cable such as DAC or AOC.
You cannot directly connect FM 3180 modules in a network that contains models 2, 2s, 2p or 2sp.
You should not directly connect FM 3180 modules in a network if the deployment is expected to grow
beyond seven fabric modules.
Connection Guidelines
NOTE: For information on FM 3180 ports, refer to the section,
I/O Panel Ports
.
•
To help in cabling the fabric, number the FM 3180 modules in the fabric starting with 1. For
example, if you are connecting five FM 3180 modules, number them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. You can affix a
label to each fabric module for identification. Refer to the appropriate section that follows for your
fabric size.
•
It may be easiest to start with fabric module #1, connect the three top ports 51, 53 and 55 as defined
in the appropriate section that follows for your fabric size. Then continue with cabling from module
2 ports 51, 53 and 55, then module 3, etc.
The following sections define cabling for direct-connect fabrics from 2 to 7 FM 3180 modules. A direct
connect fabric cannot exceed 7 fabric modules.

These are the connections to create a Composable Fabric consisting of 2 FM 3180 modules.
