Operation
4.3.5 Transmission lines connections
Depending on the inner diameter of the Tygon tubing, two pieces of tubing can be
connected by a metal or a plastic nipple. The metal nipple is used for small inner
diameter tubing. The plastic nipple is for large inner-diameter tubing (
4.4 Instrument startup test
Connect all the modules of the QuikChem System to a power strip. Switch on all the
individual module switches.
To test the instrument startup:
1.
Turn on the power strip.
Note:
The power circuits require a 6-second delay for the instrument to start up. During this
time, a beeping sound is audible that indicates that the system is powering up.
2.
The ASX-500 series and ASX-400 series samplers will automatically perform an
operation check by moving the probe over the wash bath. It will eventually place the
probe directly above the wash reservoir. Later, when accessing Omnion on the
computer, the probe will go down into the wash reservoir. The computer monitor will
show that Windows
®
is loading.
3.
Look through the side panel on the System Unit to see if the lamp is on. It may take
up to one minute for the lamp to turn on. The delay lengthens the life span of
the lamp.
4.
The heater controllers will show the current temperature of the blocks.
5.
Leave the pump turned off until ready to run the test.
4.5 Preparation for analysis
Note:
For Windows versions prior to XP and 2000 (95, 98, NT and ME), power on the QC8500
instrument and verify connection to the PC before launching Omnion. If the USB connection to the
instrument is lost (e.g., momentary interruption of power to the PC or QC8500 instrument from
power surges), reboot the PC to reestablish communication. Windows 2000 and XP will prompt the
user to recover the link without rebooting. The manufacturer strongly recommends using Windows
2000 or Windows XP operating systems with the QC8500.
