• Jars or bottles should be filled only 2 cm under the rim, for squashy
substances (apple pulp) only 4 cm under the rim. Pay attention to
instructions provided to you when buying jars (when available).
• When preserving smoked meat products, fill only 3/4 of the jar.
• Jars with threaded or spring caps or with clips should be closed
properly.
• Bottles should be closer immediately after the preserving is finished.
• Always place jars on the grate. Jars of different heights can be used.
• Jars should be placed in water up to 2/3 or 3/4 of their height, the
highest jar should be submerged by 3/4 (2 rows), see the figure.
• Heating up the full pot takes c. 1.5 hr., it is therefore much more
advantageous to use preserving in steam.
• Steam sterilization is a much more economic way of preserving – put
only 5-10 cm of water into the pot and place the jars on the grate.
This way you can save up to 60 % of energy.
• To save both time and energy, the temperature of the jars should be
the same as the temperature of the water.
• Close the appliance with the lid.
• The temperature and time required for preserving can be found in
recipes or in books on preserving.
• The time required for the machine to heat up to the selected
temperature should not be included in the preserving time.
• The preserving time starts when the selected temperature is reached.
• After the preserving time has elapsed, remove the jars, leave the
clips in place until the jars have cooled down completely, tins should
be immediately immersed into cold water.
• Preserved foods are best kept in cool and dark place.
• It is a good idea to label the jars (date, content).
• After the timer has been set, the thermostat position must not
change, as the time countdown would malfunction. If the temperature
has to be changed during the heating procedure, set the timer back
to „0“, the indicator will go off. Set the new temperature using the
thermostat and then set the required preserving time again using the
timer.
