Adding or Subtracting Areas
After calculating the size of an area, you can add
or subtract another area from it. For example,
suppose you are estimating the amount of
paving material that will be needed for a parking
lot. You would first measure the size of the entire
lot, and then subtract the sizes of any areas
within the lot that will not be paved.
Measurements
Follow these steps to add or subtract areas:
• Measure the entire area. See the previous
sections for more information about measuring
areas.
• Select

• Measure the area to be added to or subtracted
from the first area.
• If necessary, repeat the previous two steps to
add or subtract additional areas.
