Installation Instructions
This chapter contains excerpts from the installation instructions. For further particulars please refer to the appropriate installation instruction the part
number of which is indicated in the spare parts list.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (GENERAL)
_______________________
SCV signal (speedometer signal)
Many vehicles provide an electronic speedometer signal for the car radio. Some car radios use
this signal for the function SCV (
S
peed
C
ontrolled
V
olume), Gala or Gal (Geräuschabhängige
Lautstärkeanpassung = noise-dependent volume adjustment, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW); distance
signal (German GM): depending on the speed, the volume of the car radio is adjusted to compen-
sate for engine noise. The GPS 3 uses this signal to determine more accurately the position of
the vehicle.
If your vehicle does not have an electronic speedometer signal, it can be retrofitted. For example, the
adapter EAN 41 03590 00074 3 by the company VDO KIENZLE can be installed on the drive shaft
of the tachometer for this purpose.
Note:
Various car manufacturers use their own contact assignments for the telephone mute function
and SCV. Therefore you should check on the terminal connecting plan whether vehicle (radio) and
navigation system show an identical contact assignment. Grundig uses the contact assignment
of the Volkswagen Group.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (GENERAL)

Cable tree
The cable tree was designed in such a way that it simply can be placed between the car’s supply
system and the car radio (Y cable). A precondition is that the radio is connected to the cable tree of
the vehicle via an ISO plug.
It provides the voltage supply for the GPS system and transfers the voltage and the signal to the car
radio.
If the ISO plug of your vehicle is an entire block (e.g. for German GM vehicles), Grundig offers a
GPS extension kit (G.IK 17-00). This links the upper chamber of your car radio with the original
cable tree plug. The speaker output is also adapted.
If the upper chamber (connection of external display) of your radio is not used, Grundig offers a
variety of adapters.
The signals continuous plus (clamp 30) and ignition (clamp 15) at the ISO socket are assigned differ-
ently by different car manufacturers. Therefore these two lines are not plugged into the ISO socket at
works. Depending on the car manufacturer they must be plugged into the chambers A7 and A4.
Please consult your authorised dealer. Generally the plug assignments correspond to those used in
cars manufactured by the VW Group:
red line at the cable tree: clamp 15
yellow line at the cable tree: clamp 30
Inside the cable tree is a 4 AT fuse.
Note:
When installing the cable in the vehicle make sure that the line which provides the information
“car in reverse” is connected to the reverse lamp or to the switch of the gear shift lever. The infor-
mation about driving in reverse is necessary for the accuracy of the navigation.
