1.  Fit the bit to the tool by first greasing the tail end of the bit with the supplied Grease (13). Pull back the

Chuck Protective Cover (2) and hold. Push and rotate the bit into the SDS Plus Chuck (1), as far as it will
go. Release the Chuck Protective Cover

2.  The bit should now be locked into the tool; check by pulling the bit. If the bit can be removed, repeat the

above procedure until the bit is held securely

3.  Remove the bit from the chuck by pulling the Chuck Protective Cover back and holding. The bit can then

be removed from the drill

Note:

The Dust Guard (21) should be fitted to the drill or chisel bit to prevent debris and dust entering the

chuck. This is especially important when the drill is used at a raised angle when working on walls or ceilings.
For larger drill bits it may need to be fitted before the bit is fitted in the chuck.

IMPORTANT:

After approximately every 6 hours of use, fill the gearbox cavity with gearbox grease. A pot of

Grease (13) is supplied for initial use. See ‘Gearbox Maintenance’ for application guidance. Always check that
there is sufficient grease in the gearbox cavity before using the drill.

Operation

WARNING:

ALWAYS wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection when

working with this tool.

Drill mode selection

•  The drill can be used in either hammer drill mode   (for masonry work) or conventional rotary drill mode

 (for wood, metal etc)

•  Select hammer drilling mode   by rotating the Mode Selector (3) to the ‘C’ position and the Hammer

Selector (8) to the ‘A’ position

•  Select rotary drilling mode   by rotating the Mode Selector to the ‘C’ position and the Hammer Selector

(8) to the ‘B’ position

•  Do not attempt to move the Mode Selector or Hammer Selector whilst the drill is running
•  Do not attempt to operate the drill with the Mode Selector lever or Hammer Selector in between each

setting

Chisel mode selection

Note:

The drill can be used in either hammer mode    or free rotation hammer mode  .  Hammer mode

keeps the orientation of the chisel in the same direction in use whereas free rotation hammer mode allows the
chisel to rotate in use. More precise breaking of masonry material may benefit from hammer mode. General
breaking of material may benefit from free rotation hammer mode as the blade will strike the material at
different angles
•  Select non-rotation mode   by turning the Mode Selector (3) to the ‘A’ position and Hammer Selector (8)

to the ‘A’ position

•  Select free-rotation mode   by turning the Mode Selector to the ‘B’ position and Hammer Selector to

the ‘A’ position

•  Do not attempt to move the Mode Selector or Hammer Selector whilst the drill is running
•  Do not attempt to operate the drill with the Mode Selector lever or Hammer Selector in-between each

setting

Auxiliary handle

•  The Auxiliary Handle (12) should always be used when operating the drill
•  Always hold the drill firmly using both hands
•  The Auxiliary Handle position can be adjusted as required to suit the task to be performed
•  Rotate the Auxiliary Handle grip to alter the Handle position

Switching ON & OFF

1.  Activate the drill by squeezing the ON/OFF Trigger Switch (7)
2.  Stop the drill by releasing the ON/OFF Trigger Switch

Note:

The maximum speed of the drill is governed by the Variable Speed Control (10). Take time adjusting to

make sure the maximum speed is correctly set before use.

CAUTION:

The drill is not designed to be permanently switched on and there is no ‘lock-ON’ feature. Do not

attempt to improvise such a feature.

Drilling concrete

1.  Using Hammer Drill Mode  , apply pressure to the rear of the drill in line with the drill bit
2.  For efficient drilling, it is advisable to use TCT (tungsten carbide tipped) drill bits. Ensure the drill bit size is

within the maximum capacity of the drill

3.  Do not apply too much pressure if debris blocks the drill hole. Run the drill slowly, and remove the bit from

the hole. Repeat until hole is cleared

CAUTION

•  Applying excess pressure does not result in faster or more efficient drilling. If the pressure applied to the

drill has a noticeable effect on the speed of the drill then reduce the pressure. Overloading the drill will
reduce its service life

•  As the drill bit penetrates the material being drilled, it may ‘catch’ or ‘snag’. This can cause the machine

to ‘kick’ suddenly. Prevent any possibility of injury by always holding the drill securely; in addition, use the
side handle and use sharp drill bits

Chiselling

WARNING:

An SDS Plus Drill with a fitted chisel is not a viable alternative to a professional breaker.

Do not use this tool for breaking up patios, paths or other areas of thick concrete. Always consider the force
required to break up different materials. If the chisel fails to break the material stop using it immediately. The
chisel striking a surface it cannot break or requires repeated strikes at the same point to break will damage
the chisel tip and the internal parts of the SDS drill.

WARNING:

Always make sure the Motor Vents (9) are kept clean of dust and debris during use, to

prevent incorrect operation and damage to the motor.
•  Using Hammer Mode   or Free Rotation Hammer Mode  , apply pressure to the rear of the drill in line

with the chisel

•  Be aware that when chiselling, there is a high risk of chips and other waste being ejected from the work

Safety Clutch

In the event that a drill bit or core drill becomes locked in the workpiece while operating and cannot rotate or
is forced to operate at a very low rotational speed, the safety clutch will disengage the drive.
In this event quickly release the trigger to help prevent injury and to reduce wear on the safety clutch
mechanism.
After the safety clutch has disengaged the drive, completely recheck that all equipment is correctly set up and
the drill bit or core drill is not badly worn or damaged. It may be necessary to work at a slower rate. In some
instances, you may find the drill is not suitable, especially if using large core drills.

WARNING:

Do not rely on the safety clutch. Always configure your equipment for safe use so that the

safety clutch will not operate.

Drilling wood and metal

1.  Insert the 13mm keyed Chuck (14) into the SDS Plus Chuck (1)
2.  Open the Chuck with the Chuck Key (19) and insert a conventional drill bit for either wood or metal into

the chuck and tighten. See specification for maximum drilling capacities in wood and metal

CAUTION:

A keyed chuck is not for masonry bits and will be damaged if used in hammer mode. Always use

SDS Plus masonry bits fitted directly into the SDS Plus Chuck for masonry use.

NOTE:

Due to the SDS Plus chuck mounting, a 13mm keyed chuck will have a small amount of forward and

backward movement when in use. This should not affect normal operation for most drilling applications, but
be aware that when using the power drill, there may be a small amount of travel after the drill bit contacts
the surface, and actual drilling commences. Also, immediately prior to removing the drill bit from the surface,
there will be a small amount of travel.

Drilling wood

•  Use Drill Mode   only
•  Ensure drill bits are suitable for wood and are within the maximum capacity of this drill

Drilling metal

•  Use Drill Mode   only
•  Ensure accuracy by marking the intended hole position using a hammer and centre punch
•  Ensure drill bits are suitable for the grade of metal being drilled, and are within the maximum capacity

of the drill
