•
Connect the Control Module to a computer using the USB interface cable.
If it powers up with this connection, it is possible that the Control Module cable is damaged or
there is damage to the Audio Out connector on the Control Module.
If the cable is intact, then the amplifier module may have to be replaced.
10.4 Symptom: No audio or low audio from LRAD
The LRAD contains an array of acoustic drivers. The loss of one driver may not be noticeable to
the user of the LRAD, but the loss of more than one driver may noticeably impact the LRAD’s
performance. Audio problems with the LRAD may also be caused by faulty cabling,
contamination or water buildup in the Head Unit, the failure of one or more amplifiers in the
Amplifier Module, or the failure of the Control Module or the microphone.
•
Verify the connection of the cable between the Audio Out connection of the Amplifier
Module and the Head Unit. Inspect the cable for damage and continuity.
•
Ensure that the amplifier module is powered on and that the volume is set correctly.
•
Test both the Control Module and the microphone. If one fails and not the other, replace
the faulty device.
•
Perform the Amplifier Output Voltage Test on the amplifier to determine if the amplifiers
are functioning properly.
•
Perform the Driver Resistance Test on the Head Unit to determine if any Drivers are
defective.
10.5 Symptom: Control Module not recognized by computer or computer gives
error message when connecting Control Module.
The USB download cable provided with the Control Module has a USB.0 compliant connector at
one end and a MIL-DTL-D38999 connector at the other. The MIL connector is not fully USB
compliant and does not provide a mate first/break last ground connection as required by the
USB standard. For this reason, it is important to first plug the MIL connector into the Control
Module and then plug the USB connector into the computer. Not establishing the connection
in this order can lead to problems with recognition of the USB device.
•
Disconnect the USB connector from the computer, reboot the computer, and reconnect to
the computer after rebooting.
•
Inspect the USB download cable for damage and replace if necessary.
