9.0 Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Servicing Instructions
9.1 Preventive Maintenance
The LRAD-450XL requires minimal preventive maintenance. As the LRAD is an acoustic device,
its acoustic elements must be in contact with the surrounding air in order to emit sound. While
these elements are somewhat environmentally protected by the screen, it is best to keep the
head unit covered using the optional soft cover when not in use. This will prevent moisture,
salt, and dust buildup on the screen and will protect the unit from exposure to the elements.
Figure 21: Optional Soft Cover
The LRAD-450XL soft cover comes in four color options: Gray (Genasys Part Number 108684-
02), Tan (108684-03), Green (108684-04), and Black (108684-10).
In extremely corrosive environments, a lubricant may be applied to the connectors to repel
water.
9.2 Cleaning the Head Unit Grill
The Head Unit Grill provides a partial barrier to protect the acoustic drivers in the head unit
from dust, water, and other elements, while allowing sound to pass through. Any blockage of
this grill material may affect the acoustic performance of the LRAD.
If there is dust, mud, or other material buildup in the grill, it can be rinsed off with fresh water
and a brush. Allow the LRAD’s Head Unit to rest with the grill facing down to let any moisture
that has built up behind the grill during washing drain out.
10.0 Troubleshooting
10.1 Symptom: No green power LED after turning on the main power switch.
The green power LED indicates that the internal DC-DC converter (located in the Amplifier
Module) has powered up and is providing power to the amplifiers. If this LED is not lit, the DC
to DC power supply has not powered up and is not producing the 48 VDC output required to
run the internal Amplifiers.
