Electric Coil Elements/Drip Bowls
To clean the cooktop elements, turn the control to the
highest setting for a minute. The coils will burn off any
soil.
CAUTION:
■
Do not immerse the cooktop elements in liquids of any
kind.
■
Do not clean the cooktop elements in a dishwasher.
■
Do not bend the cooktop element plug terminals.
■
Do not attempt to clean, adjust or any way repair the
plug-in receptacle.
Cooktop Element Removal
To remove the
drip bowl for
cleaning, the
cooktop elements
must be removed
first. Make sure
the cooktop elements are completely cool before
touching.
Lift the cooktop element about 1 inch above the drip
bowl and pull it out.
Do not lift the cooktop element more than 1 inch. If you
do, it may not lie flat on the drip bowl when you plug it
back in.
Repeated lifting of the cooktop element more than 1 inch
above the drip bowl can permanently damage the
receptacle.
To replace a cooktop element:
Replace the drip bowl into the recess in the cooktop.
Make sure opening in the bowl lines up with the
receptacle.
■
Insert the terminals of the cooktop elements through
the opening in the drip bowl and into the receptacle.
■
Guide the cooktop elements into place so it rests
evenly.
Drip Bowl Cleaning
Remove the cooktop
elements. Then lift out
the drip bowls.
For best results, clean
the drip bowls by
hand. Place them in a
covered container (or a plastic bag) with 1/4 cup
ammonia to loosen the soil. Then scrub with a soap filled
scouring pad if necessary. Rinse with clean water and
polish with a clean soft cloth.
The drip bowl may also be cleaned in the dishwasher.
Black drip bowls may be cleaned in a self-cleaning oven
after they have been thoroughly rinsed. However, self-
cleaning them may cause them to lose their original
luster and shine.
Clean the area under the drip bowl often
. Built-up soil,
especially grease, may catch fire.
Do not cover the drip bowls with foil.
Using foil so close
to the receptacle could cause shock, fire or damage to the
stove. If aluminum foil is used to line drip bowls it is
important that the foil doesn’t block the centre hole of
the drip bowl and be far away from the cooktop element.
If aluminum foil must be used to line drip bowls, it is
recommended to buy the pre-formed inserts that are
available from your local hardware or grocery store.
CAUTION
: Be sure all the controls are turned OFF and
the cooktop elements are cool before attempting to
remove.
