Function Test, Gain Test and Calibration
The Gassonic Observer-i can be tested in various ways, either at physical distance with the Gassonic
SB100 Ultrasonic Bump Tester and/or with the Gassonic 1701 Test and Calibration unit providing
traceable test and calibration.
5.1.
Gassonic SB100 Ultrasonic Bump Tester
For a simple function test of the Gassonic Observer-i, the Gassonic SB100 can be used to do a bump
test of the Gassonic UGLD’s without actually having to be in physical contact with the detector itself.
The Gassonic SB100 emits high power ultrasonic acoustic noise and when aimed at the UGLD, the
airborne noise will be picked up by the Gassonic Observer-i at distances up to 18 meters away. The
Gassonic SB100 will be recognized by the Gassonic Observer-i in Enhanced Mode, and a “T” will be
displayed on the Gassonic Observer-i display. The analog output will go to 1.5 mA (3.5 mA HART
standard) for 2 seconds, then to 16 mA for the duration of the preset delay time and finally to 20 mA. At
this stage the Gassonic Observer-i will be in ALARM and the Alarm Relay will be activated. This test is
a functional test of the Gassonic Observer-i, but if plant regulations require a
traceable
test and
calibration, the Gassonic 1701 Portable Test and Calibration Unit can be used.
