Frontend Cable Connection
In the ETERNUS DX8700 S3/DX8900 S3, a frontend enclosure is included as a basic configuration. Connections
between this frontend enclosure and controller enclosures are called frontend cable connections.
In frontend cable connections, two types of cables connect between the single frontend enclosure and all con-
troller enclosures. Controllers and Front End Routers (FRT) are connected with QSFP copper cables or QSFP active
optical cables, and controllers and Service Controllers (SVC) are connected with management cables.
These cables are collectively referred to as "frontend cables".

The frontend cables that are supplied as standard with the base unit include 1.1m QSFP copper cables and 3m
management cables.
The QSFP cables that are available for extending the connection are the 3m QSFP copper cable, and the 10m or
30m QSFP active optical cable.
There are no operational issues even if different types of cables exist in the ETERNUS DX.

Make sure to use the supplied 1.1m QSFP copper cable to connect between the frontend enclosure and the
controller enclosure (CE#0). Do not use the cables for extending the connection.

Make sure to use the QSFP active optical cables to connect between the frontend enclosure and the control-
ler enclosures (CE#4 to CE#B). Do not use the QSFP copper cables.
For the management cable, 5m, 10m, and 30m cables are available for extending the connection.
The frontend cable of the optional product is a set of cables comprised of "QSFP copper cables or QSFP active
optical cables" and "management cables". Select the most appropriate frontend cable depending on the dis-
tance between the frontend enclosure and the controller enclosure.
