Installation Example (ETERNUS DX8700 S3/DX8900 S3)
The ETERNUS DX8700 S3/DX8900 S3 can be connected with multiple controller enclosures and multiple drive en-
closures. A single controller enclosure and the drive enclosures that are connected directly are handled as one
group, and this group is called a node.
Installation patterns differ depending on the number of drive enclosures within a single node and whether a
UNIX/industry standard server connection or a mainframe connection is used (when following the standard in-
stallation rules). The following example shows an installation to a 19-inch rack.

Example of an Installation for a UNIX/Industry Standard Server Connection

When connecting six or less drive enclosures per node

Power distribution units (horizontal type) are installed in the lower part of each rack.

A single frontend enclosure is installed in a base rack.

Controller enclosures and drive enclosures are installed in the order of each node.

The installation position of controller enclosures is fixed.

Even if the number of drive enclosures per node is odd, leave a space between the drive enclosures.
