Only use electric animal drover with healthy and uninjured over one
year old cattle and over four month old pigs.
Moisten only the areas on the slaughter animals where the
electrodes of the stun tongs are to be applied.
Use warm water (approx. 40 °C) if possible.
Avoid pain and suffering by attempting to apply contact pressure in a
manner conducive to the well-being of the animal.
Stun the animals so that they are quickly and painlessly rendered
unconscious and insensitive right up to the point of death.
5.4 Start of stunning
Pre-set stunning
times
The pre-set stunning time is a specification based on the current German
Regulations for Animal Protection and Slaughter (TierSchlV) from 1
st
January 2013 and the EC Regulation No. 1099/2009.
The minimum electric current must be held for at least 4 seconds, except
during high-voltage stunning. The minimum electric current and the
current conducting time refer to alternating currents from 50 to 100 Hertz
(Hz); the same applies for pulsating direct currents, rectified alternating
currents and phase angle controlled currents, provided they do not differ
significantly from sinus 50 Hz.
In other countries, the respective national regulations on the protection of
animals apply at the time of slaughter or killing. Adapt the stunning time to
the regulations in your country.
