EMERGENCY CONTROL DEVICE – EMERGENCY TILLER
If the steering gear fails, then the boat can be controlled at reduced speed with an emergency control device provided
via an emergency tiller. It is advisable to reduce the sail area and divide the sail areas by targeted reefing so that as
little rudder pressure as possible is applied. The emergency tiller attacks directly on one of the rudders and is not force
reduced.
The emergency tiller is in the cockpit locker. Plug the emergency tiller onto the corresponding end of the rudder shaft,
this is hidden in the engine compartment. When controlling with the emergency tiller, proceed as follows:
➤
Reduce sail area if necessary
➤
Open the engine compartment cover
➤
Place the emergency tiller in the receptacle directly on the steering column
Note that when using the emergency tiller the visibility for the helmsman is impaired.
Make sure that there is always one person in the lookout and that person can communicate with the helmsman.
The emergency tiller is placed directly on one of the two rudder stems.
The engine compartment cover must remain open.
