Section 5
PLUMBING
Winterizing with RV Approved Antifreeze Only
Purchase 4-6 gallons of RV approved, non-toxic antifreeze.
1.
Unhook from all water sources and drain fresh water tank and all sewage tanks. Note: Black tank
needs to be emptied into an approved black tank dump station.
DO NOT
empty the black tank onto
the ground.
2.
Turn off water heater and water pump switch. Turn Water Heater bypass valve, located in the
exterior convenience center to the ‘bypass’ position.
3. Drain water heater by removing the anode rod and opening the pressure relief valve and open all
faucets, low point drains, and hold toilet flushing mechanism open until all water is done draining.
4. Close all valves and remove the water filter from the canister, discard filter and re-install canister.
(You will need to purchase a new filter and install it when de-winterizing your unit).
5. Make sure all faucets and valves are closed and turn the winterizing valve to the winterize position.
6. Connect a known clean hose to the Anti-freeze port and place the other end into a jug of RV anti-
freeze, and turn on the water pump switch. Open faucets one at a time until the antifreeze, (generally
pink in color), flows out of the faucets. Repeat for each faucet including the outside shower or
washdown. If the jug gets empty before the pinkish color is present, turn off pump switch, remove
hose from jug and use another full jug and repeat process until pinkish color flows through all
faucets. Flush Toilet until anti-freeze flows through it also.
7. Turn off pump, remove hose from jug and unhook from Anti-freeze port.
8. Pour one gallon of antifreeze down the toilet to winterize the black holding tank.
9. Pour antifreeze down each shower/tub, lavatory sink and kitchen sink to fill p-traps.
10. To winterize gray tank(s), pour one gallon down each related sink drain.
11. Open one faucet cold side tap to de pressurize the system then reclose it.
12. Remove the water filter canister again and fill it about ¼ full of approved RV antifreeze and re-install
the canister.
13. Return the Anti-freeze valve to the “Normal” position
NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TURN ON THE WATER HEATER OR USE THE PLUMBING
SYSTEM ONCE THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN WINTERIZED. DEWINTERIZE THE
WATER SYSTEM, FLUSH AND SANITIZE PRIOR TO USE.
