7. NOTE: Take care not to score the surface of the
cylinder head face.
Position LH cylinder head on cylinder head to
block dowels (6A008).
8. Apply clean engine oil meeting Ford specification
WSS-M2C 153-F to all head bolt spot-faces.
9.
Remove rubber band from lower rear bolt and
install nine remaining bolts. Hand tighten.
10. Tighten LH cylinder head bolts as follows:

a. Tighten head bolts in sequence to 37-43 N-m
(28-31 lb-ft).
b. Rotate head bolts in sequence, 85-95
degrees.
c. Loosen head bolts a minimum of one full turn
(360 degrees).
d. Retighten head bolts in sequence to 37-43
N-m (28-3 1 lb-ft).
e. Rotate head bolts in sequence 85-95
degrees.
f. Rotate head bolts in sequence an additional
85-95 degrees.

Position RH cylinder head on cylinder head to
block dowels.
Apply clean engine oil meeting Ford specification
WSS·M2C 153-F to all head bolt spot-faces.
Remove rubber band from lower rear bolt and
install the nine remaining bolts. Hand-tighten.
Tighten RH cylinder head bolts as follows:
a. Tighten head bolts in sequence to 37-43 N-m
(28-3 1 lb-ft). Refer to illustration.
b. Rotate head bolts in sequence, 85-95
degrees.
c. Loosen head bolts a minimum of one full turn
(360 degrees).
d. Retighten head bolts in sequence to 37-43
N-m (28-31 lb-ft).
e. Rotate head bolts in sequence 85-95
degrees.
f.
Rotate head bolts in sequence an additional
85-95 degrees.
1 5. Position heater water hose on cylinder head and
install two bolts. Tighten retaining bolts to 2Q-30
N-m ( 1 5-22 1b-ft).
16. Rotate camshafts (6250) using flats matched at
center of camshaft until both are in time. Install
Cam Positioning Tool Adapters T92P-6256-A and
Cam Positioning Tool T91 P-6256-A on flats of
camshafts. This will prevent the camshafts from
rotating.

CAUTION: Cran.kshaft must only be rotated In
the clockwise direction and only as far as
TDC.
NOTE: This will position crankshaft at TDC No 1 .
Rotate crankshaft clockwise 45 degrees.

CAUTION: Timing chain procedures must be
followed exactly or damage to valves or
pistons will result.

Install timing chains
as
described.
Inspect and replace crankshaft front seal (6700)
and engine front cover gasket (6020) as
necessary.
NOTE: Prior to applying sealer, clean sealing
surfaces with Metal Surface Cleaner
F4AZ- 1 9A536-RA or equivalent meeting Ford
specification WSE-M58392-A to remove all
residues that may interfere with the sealer's
ability to adhere.
Apply a 8-1 2 mm (0.32-Q.47 inch) bead of
Silicone Gasket and Sealant FSAZ-1 9562-AA or
equivalent meeting Ford specification
WSE-M4G323-A6, in locations shown.
