Retrieving Error Codes using RS-232
You can retrieve error codes from the device using the device rear-panel RS-232 port and
an ASCII terminal, or PC running ASCII terminal emulation.
Complete the following procedure to retrieve error codes from the device using an RS-
232 connection.
1.
Connect the device to a PC COM port and setup the RS-232 parameters and
connection as described in the procedure “Manual Calibration Procedure” in
Chapter 5.
2.
Enter the command *TST? to invoke the device selftest routine and return the result,
or just SELFTEST? for the results of the most recent self test. If you use *TST?,
allow several seconds for the tests to complete. The *TST? test does not include the
RAM test because this test cannot be performed when the device is operating.
3.
Observe the returned number after the selftest routine. Refer to Table 6-1 for an
analysis of the return. For example, a return of 64 is the same as error code 7 on the
front panel display.
Selecting the Diagnostic Tools
This section describes the device diagnostic tool menu and other diagnostic features. The
diagnostic tool menu is hidden from the user. There are three separate diagnostic tools
that can be selected from the menu, each of which is described below.
Complete the following procedure to select the diagnostic tools.
1.
Power the device and allow it to complete the normal power-on sequence.
2.
Press and hold the
key for 3 seconds until “tool” appears in the secondary
display. Note that if you do not have a DIO module, you will not be allowed to run
these routines.
3.
Use the up/down arrow keys to sequence you through the diagnostic selections:
•
dio (used to set any of the DIO module dio19 to dio0 digital i/o lines)
•
rELAy (used to close any of the DIO module relay 8 to relay 1 lines)
4.
Select the desired diagnostic tool using the up/down arrow keys; then press the
key.
5.
Press and hold the
key for 3 seconds until “tool” appears in the secondary
display.
6.
Use the up/down arrow keys to sequence you through the diagnostic selections:
•
ids (used to identify the device type and display the various firmware versions
active within the device)
•
conF (used to set scanning rate, function, range and channel)
7.
Select the desired diagnostic tool using the up/down arrow keys; then press the
key.
Other diagnostic tools include the display test and COMM parameter reset.
Diagnostic Tool dio
The dio diagnostic tool allows you to change the status of any 20 dio lines dio19 to dio0
located in the DI/O module.
Complete the following procedure to change the status of any dio line.
