1. Introduction
1.1. The OBID
®
classic System - Principle of Function
The identification system OBID
®
classic is an inductive RFID transmission system with 125 kHz carrier
frequency which enables contactless data transfer between passive transponders and the OBID
®
classic reader. The system consists of a reader, an antenna and a transponder to store data.
If a transponder reaches the local electromagnetic alternating field of the antenna, it will be inductively
supplied with energy and may be read or written on. The received data are received by the same
reader antenna which also generates the electromagnetic field and transmits the data to the
transponder.
The magnetic field and the data sent to and from the transponder are able to penetrate any non-
conducting material, so that line-of-sight is not required for reading and writing.
1.2. The OBID
®
ID RW40.30-USB Reader
The OBID
®
ID RW40.30-USB is a further member of the well known OBID
®
RW-Family and is
designed for desktop applications for contactless data exchange with common 125 kHz Transponder.
It is suited for various office, administration and industrial applications.
The ID RW40.30-USB is a port powered USB device which guarantees an easy installation because
there is no additional power supply necessary.
The device is designed as a CDC-Device and uses a virtual COM-port for communication with a PC
with Windows® operating systems. This design makes the ID RW40.30-USB compatible with other
members of the OBID
®
RW-reader family with RS232 interface and can be easily integrated in existing
OBID
®
classic systems.
A mixed installation of different OBID
®
ID RW reader types within the same application is possible by a
uniform communication interface of the ID RW reader family.
