OPERATION
PREPARING THE UNIT
Unpacking and completing the assembly should
be done on a flat and stable surface, with enough
space for moving the machine and its packaging,
always making use of suitable equipment.
To assemble the machine:
1. Mount base assembly securely on a bench or
similar surface using the bolts and nuts (Fig. 2).
2. Mount the motor assembly to base (Fig. 3). In
sert the bolt into the pivot point hole and se
cure by installing the washer and knob onto the
bolt from the rear side of the base assembly
and tightening in place (Fig. 4).
3. Attach the handle on the motor head
(Fig. 5).
4.
Check the chosen grinding wheel condi
tion before mounting on the machine (Fig. 6).
5.
Place the guard in position and secure in
place with its bolts (Fig. 7).
6.
Position the chosen and good condition wheel
inside the shield and restrain the main axle
from rotating using an Allen key (Fig. 8). Tight
en the central bolt to secure the grinding wheel
in position.
WARNING
Do not over-tighten the central bolt to avoid
damaging the wheel.
7. Check for correct alignment and calibration
of the wheel. To do so, observe the wheel and
make sure it turns without oscillating, wearing
protective equipment and keeping a safe dis
tance.
8. Check the profile of the chosen wheel. To do
so, set the machine to “OFF” position and check
the profile using the special template provided
(Fig. 11). The wheel profile might need to be
corrected accordingly to fit the desired profile,
setting the machine to “ON” position and using
the special brick provided (Fig. 10) to grind the
wheel profile to the desired specs.
NOTE
The installed electric motor is completely wired
ready for operation. The customer‘s connection to
the power supply sys¬tem, and any extension cables
that may be used, must conform with local regula
tions. Check electrical connection cables regularly
for damage. Make sure the cable is disconnected
from the mains when checking. Electrical connection
cables must comply with the regulations applicable
in your country.
Single-phase motor
f
The mains voltage must coincide with the voltage
specified on the motor’s rating plate.
f
Dimension cables up to a length of 25m must have
a cross-section of 1.5mm
2
and beyond 25m at least
2.5mm
2
.
f
The connection to the mains must be protected
with an appropriate slow acting fuse.\
WARNING
Connect the machine only to a socket with the prop
erly installed ground contact.
OPERATING THE UNIT
WARNING
During operation of this machine for saw chain
grinding pay attention to the following:
1. Before making any adjustments, make sure
that the machine is switched off and the grind
ing wheel has come to a complete stop.
2. It is recommended that the chain to be sharp
ened is clean from dirt and oil residues.
3. Grind all cutters of one side first and then all
cutters of the second side.
4. To avoid overloading the machine and prevent
damage to the chain under sharpening, remove
only the minimum amount of material each
time and do not operate on the same tooth for
too long. Use two to three strokes per tooth.
5.
Do not use any short of grinding surface cool
ing liquids.
6. Replace worn grinding wheels when the diame
ter of the wheel is 70mm or less.
To operate the machine:
1.
Position the saw chain to be sharpened on the
vise and secure in position (Fig. 12).
2.
Set grinding head to desired angle by loosening
the adjustment knob, rotating the head to the
desired angle and re-tightening the knob (Fig.
13, 14).
3. To set the top plate angle, rotate the vise assem
bly to the right (Fig. 15) or to the left (Fig. 16).
4. To set the vise tilt angle (Fig. 17):
f
Use the center mark for chains requiring 90⁰
(Fig. 17).
f
Tilt the vise to inward position for left hand cut
ters (Fig. 18).
f
Tilt the vise to outward position for right hand
cutters (Fig. 19).
5.
To set the chain stop, use the centering knob
and center the chain behind the cutter (Fig. 20).
Make final adjustments to the chain stop using
the knob at the back of the chain stop support.
6. To center the cutting chain in the vise, loosen
the lock nut (Fig. 21), center the chain using
the Allen screw (Fig. 22) and once centered, re
tighten the lock nut.
NOTE
This setting will keep the left and right hand cut
ters equal when grinding top plates.
7.
To set the grind depth, locate the chain cutter
to be sharpened and lower the grinding wheel
into the gullet (Fig. 23). Set depth of grind by
using the depth adjustment knob (Fig. 24) , al
ways keeping the switch to “OFF” position.
8. After you are finished with the above adjust
ments turn the motor to “ON” position and
start sharpening the cutter. Turn the switch to
“OFF” position once you are finished sharpen
ing the cutter. Grind all right hand cutters first,
then rotate the vise and grind all left hand cut
ters.
