and Sine full wave.
A Square wave is useful for detecting impairments close to a user.
A Sine Half wave and a Sine compensated (50% and 75%) wave are useful for mid-
range faults.
A Sine full wave pulse is excellent for locating impairments up to 20,000 ft away from
the user.
VERTICAL
GAIN:
Allows the user to specify a vertical gain factor to apply to the TDR result. The default
setting is 0 dB (1X). The available options are 0 dB, 12 dB, 24 dB, and 36 dB. By
applying a 36 dB vertical scaling factor to the TDR result, the user is actually
increasing each reflection point 64 times its original size.
If TDR TEST TYPE is set to AUTO – CABLE END or AUTO – BRIDGE TAP, the following option will be
displayed.
MAX. CAP.
IMBALANCE
(%):
Allows the user to specify the maximum capacitive length imbalance between T-G
and R-G. The default setting is 10%. Setting of Imbalance can be from 0.1% to 100%
where 100% is the worst case scenario. If the imbalance is greater than the user
defined setting the CableSHARK will not complete the test and will report
“Measurement not possible. Tip and Ring wires are substantially different
lengths.”
If TDR TEST TYPE is set to AUTO – CABLE END only the following option will be displayed.
F1 LENGTH:
Optional Feature: The CableSHARK is capable of bridging into the middle of a circuit
(intrusive) to measure from remote to CPE and ignore the cable from remote to CO
(called F1 circuit). This setting affects more measurements such as Frequency
Response, TDR, and DMT test. The F1 length is assumed to be longer than the
distance between the Remote Cabinet and the Customer.
Setting to 0 deactivates the function.
The function button command selection at the bottom of the TDR Test Setup Menu consists of five options
available to the operator. The first three options (EDIT/SELECT, SELECT PREVIOUS, SELECT NEXT)
enable the modification of the test parameters (residing near the upper part of the screen). The last two
options at the bottom of the screen are CABLE TESTS and MAIN MENU. For some options for which a
numeric value must be entered, only three options may appear: EDIT/SELECT, CABLE TESTS and MAIN
MENU.
To modify a test parameter, it must first be highlighted with the cursor. A test parameter can be highlighted
by moving the cursor to the desired parameter with the Cursor Pad UP/DOWN arrow buttons.
