Appendix J Visi-SHARK Software
Visi-SHARK is a MS Windows® 95/98/ME/2000/XP software package which enables you to use
your PC to
remote control the CableSHARK. In addition to making remote controlled measurements, Visi-
SHARK allows you to view, print or save to disk information from your local and remote CableSHARK(s),
whether you are a few meters from the CableSHARK or thousands of kilometers away.
To run a test using Visi-SHARK, you simply use your PC’s mouse to command the CableSHARK. Visi-
SHARK’s intuitive controls will be instantly recognizable to any CableSHARK user. Clicking on the graphical
buttons on the screen of your PC has exactly the same effect as pushing the buttons on the CableSHARK
front panel. The information on the screen changes as you operate the unit. Alternatively, you can use your
PC arrow keys, <ENTER> key, and numerical keys to control the CableSHARK using Visi-SHARK.
NOTE: If the Visi-SHARK option is not installed on the CableSHARK, only the SCREEN RECALL
feature will be available to the user. The SCREEN RECALL function will save the screenshots as
JPEG’s.
J.1 Installing the Software
The Visi-SHARK software can be downloaded of the EXFO webs site (free) or ordered on a CD-ROM. The
CD-ROM will be labeled with “Version X.XX”, where “X.XX” is the version of the software you received.
The software can be installed under Windows® 95/98/ME/2000/XP. When the installation program is run,
follow the instructions on the screen.
The SETUP program expands and places the contents of the Visi-SHARK Program disks into the default
destination directory “C:\Program Files\EXFO Ltd.\VisiSHARK”, or a different user-defined directory.
