The RFL measurement used by the CableSHARK is referred to as a “separate good pair” test. This means
the user must have a good pair to compare against.
12.1.1 Setting up for a RFL Test
12.1.1.1 Disconnecting the Station Battery and the Customer
Before an RFL test can take place, the circuit that is to be tested must be disconnected from the CO station
battery and from the customer. The RFL test is an end-to-end test meaning that the CableSHARK is placed
at one end of the circuit (typically on the CO side of the circuit) and a strap is placed on the customer side of
the circuit.
IMPORTANT: Attachment of the strap should not take place until the CableSHARK has indicated how
to hook up the strap.
12.1.1.2..Connecting the CableSHARK to a Suspect Faulty Pair
To perform a RFL test, the user must determine what is the faulty pair and whether there is a good pair in
the bundle to connect to. The CableSHARK has two sets of connections on the rear of the unit. The 2 Wire
Line TX/RX is used to connect to a suspect wire pair to determine if it is faulty, and if so, where is the fault.
