Section 1 Introduction and Specifications
NOTICE:
This manual has been compiled to give an overview of operation and is designed to offer information centered around safe, practi-
cal use of the welder and its functions Welding operations are inherently dangerous. Only the operator of this welder can ultimately
ensure that safe operating practices are being followed, through the exercise of common sense practices and training. Do not
operate this machine until you have fully read the manual, including the safety section. If you do not have the skill or knowledge
to safely operate this unit and its related functions, do not use this welder until formal training is received
. Always be aware of
your surroundings and operating environment and who and what is in that environment.
General Product Information:
The Pulse MIG capability of the Power i
-
MIG 353DPi is designed to help the professional/commercial user to maintain maximum
control over heat and fusion. The Power i
-
MIG 353DPi employs a synergic single pulse and double pulse (sometimes referred to
as Pulse
-
on
-
Pulse) GMAW type design that features optimized synergic control over the pulse parameters. Synergic control most
simply defined, means that complicated parameters such as pulse width, frequency, pulse volts and amps are automatically con-
trolled by pre
-
programmed algorithmic settings. These settings are programmed and tested by trained welding engineers at the
factory for best performance. In practical terms, the synergic design needs some basic input parameters from the user to ensure
proper operation. These are simple things such as wire type (alloy type/AWS classification), and wire diameter. After that, Amps
(which is the same as adjusting wire speed) are input by the operator to match metal thickness. The arc length can be fine tuned if
needed to match welding condition requirements. If adjustments are made to arc length, the pulse automatically adapts operation
parameters to work well with the new adjustments. This makes it ideal for use with 40XX and 50XX series Aluminum, and most
weldable Stainless Steels where heat and arc control is critical and out
-
of
-
position welding is regularly encountered. The synergic
pulse also lends itself well to applications such as auto
-
body repair where the employment of high
-
strength, high carbon steel
requires MIG brazing with Silicone bronze to meet new certification requirements and heat control restrictions mandated by auto
manufacturing industry.
This unit also has the capability to operate in a synergic mode for non
-
pulse MIG (MIG CO
2
mode) operation for Steel wires. Flux
core operation is also permissible with the non
-
pulse MIG mode with the synergic function turned off (with flux
-
core drive rolls
installed), as well as steel wires when full manual control is desired. Aluminum (AL/4043 or AL/5356), Stainless (S.S.) and MIG
Brazing (Cu/Brz) modes are designed to be used in Pulse MIG (P. MIG) or Double Pulse (D.P. MIG) modes.
The unit also has a stick weld function. While some may not consider this function during purchase considerations, it is designed
for fabrication work with
The unit provides the operator the ability to fine tune many factory settings. It also allows the operator to save up to 9 programs
for easy setup with multiple common applications. Features such as Hot Start, End Fill (Crater), Burn Back, Inductance and Volt-
age Offset (Trim) provide the user with everything needed to make perfect out of position MIG welds on thin or thicker Aluminum.
Offering both single and double pulse mode, the unit can be used to both control the heat on thin material, and also to create
aesthetically pleasing welds with neat
“
TIG
”
like appearance in Aluminum, Stainless or Steel.
The Power i
-
MIG 353DPi package comes equipped with a power source, detachable wire feeder, cart and water
-
cooler as the main
part of the package. It includes a 36 series air
-
cooled MIG gun, Shielding gas regulator, work cable and clamp, control cable,
input power cable. The control cable, welding power cable and stick electrode holder and cable also come as part of the package.
Water
-
Cooler lines are also included to carry water from the water cooler to the rear of the wire feeder, if a water
-
cooled gun is
being used. If you do not choose the water
-
cooled MIG gun option, the water cooler and water cooler lines do not need to be
connected to the wire feeder.
Extra Drive rolls are included with this unit. There is an assortment that includes multiple sizes and types, including V groove for
steel and stainless, U groove for Aluminum and Cu/Brz, and flux
-
core. However, a full range is not included for every size and
type and extra drive rolls are available for purchase. The drive roll assortment that is included are designed to meet the common
needs of most welders and applications that this unit is designed for. Extra drive rolls may be purchased direct from Everlast how-
ever. Notice
: .023”
wire is not recommended for use in this machine. If
.023”
wire must be used, a smaller gun 10ft or smaller
must be used, along with a drive roll for
.023”
use. In this case, the machine only supports operation in manual, non synergic
MIG mode and should only be used with Steel wires. The smallest recommended steel wire size is
.030”.
For smaller wires in
general, a smaller gun such as a 24 Series gun from Everlast may be warranted for better feeding and operator comfort.
