9. Setting up the outdoor sensor
a) Inserting the batteries
• Loosen the screws on the battery compartment cover (14), and then
remove the cover.
•
Insert three AA batteries into the battery compartment, ensuring that
you observe the polarity markings (plus/+ and minus/-).
For safety reasons and to ensure a longer battery life, use
disposable (non-rechargeable) batteries. Low temperatures
significantly reduce the battery life of rechargeable batteries.
We recommend that you use alkaline batteries from a reputa
-
ble manufacturer.
• When batteries are inserted, the red LED indicator (17) on the bottom
of the sensor will flash every 12 seconds. This indicates that measure
-
ments are being transmitted to the base station.
•
Replace the battery compartment cover and screw it in place.
Remove any plastic film from the solar module.
•
Replace the batteries when the base station stops receiving measurements from the outdoor sensor.
b) Mounting the outdoor sensor
The outdoor sensor must be mounted in an open outdoor space.
Please note the following:
• The sensor must be fully exposed to ensure that the wind speed and wind direction are measured correctly. For best
results, place the sensor at least 10 m away from buildings.
•
Do not place the sensor near trees or bushes, as falling leaves may block the rain gauge.
• The maximum range of the outdoor sensor is 150 m with no obstructions (i.e. direct line of sight between the sensor
and base station). However, the actual range may be much lower due to walls, furniture, windows, plants and other
objects between the sensor and base station. For more information about the sensor range, see section "Range".
•
Before mounting the sensor, check that it is working properly and ensure that the base station can receive measure-
ments.
•
The tube for the outdoor sensor can be mounted to a vertical mast using the mounting materials provided. Depend-
ing on where the sensor is mounted (e.g. to a carport), you can also use an L-shaped satellite dish mount.
