REMOTE UPGRADING OF THE CENTRAL SOFTWARE
1.1
General
The BusinessPhone remote upgrading system is used to upgrade the current software running in an
ASB 150 02 exchange to a different or enhanced software version without the need of exchanging the
PROMs on the CPU-D4. The software that should be upgraded to, must be based on the identical language
version that is already installed in the system. If the language shall be changed, the system must be
upgraded with the complete software in the new language.
Remote upgrading has the following prerequisites on the PBX side:
CPU-D4 equipped with FLASHPROMS and a FECU (KDU BS 130 06/_ or KDU BS 130 07/_)
has to be installed. For details on FLASHPROMS refer to
Requirements of the CPU-D4 on page 3.
On the maintenance side a PC is necessary with hardware requirements as mentioned in chapter 1.2.
This PC can be connected to the CPU-D4 directly (V.24) or remotely. The PC requires an operating system
such as MS Win95 or MS WinNT 4.0. The terminal application program, provided by the operating system,
such as HyperTerminal, Telix etc. manages the communication between PC and the CPU-D4.
The terminal program is used to load the new ASB 150 02 software upgrade file created by the "UPGRADE
PROGRAM" into the CPU-D4. In order to keep the transmission time as short as possible the "UPGRADE
PROGRAM" creates only a file comprising the differences between the existing software in the exchange
and the new software to which it should be upgraded to. Optionally a full software upgrade version can be
created too.
The basic principle of upgrading is that the CPU-D4, equipped with two separate program memory areas
receives an upgrade software and stores the changes in a temporary storage area, called the upgrade
FLASH that is controlled by the RP. This upgrade software, called output file, is created by the "UPGRADE
PROGRAM" chkdiff.exe, then transferred and stored directly into the upgrade FLASH. This file has to be
sent as a text file. The PBX continues operating while the program is loaded remotely or locally into the
CPU-D4 upgrade FLASH as the CP operates on the program stored in the program memory area called
active FLASH. The time to upgrade to the new software can be selected in a menu. As soon as the upgrade
time is reached the CPU-D4 is automatically restarted.
