Modbus exception codes
Modbus exceptions are a response that indicates a failed operation by the client. This is
signalled by the addition of 0x80 in the function code of the response. The specific error
can be identified by the next byte which contains the error code ID, corresponding to the
table below.

FUNCTION_NOT_SUPPORTED
The received function code is not
supported on the server, i.e. not FC3,
FC6, FC16 or FC23.
0x02
TOO_MANY_REGISTERS
The parameter reference and/or the
transfer length are/is invalid.
0x04
SERVER_FAILURE
This error is generated when a response
to a routed message is found to be
corrupt. CRC error occurred.
0x06
SERVER_BUSY
This can occur if the module is trying to
route a message but it cannot get control
of the drive’s communications buffer.
0x0B
GATEWAY_PROBLEM_NO_RESPONSE
This occurs if there is no response to a
routed message.
