82 Configuring & Monitoring the Switch
VH-2402S2
Setting a Default Gateway
The default Gateway parameter defines the IP address of a router or other
network device to which IP packets are to be sent if destined for a subnet
outside of that which the switch is operating.
To set a default gateway, do the following:
1.
Select Management Setup Menu from the Main Menu.
2.
Select Network Configuration and then IP Configuration.
3.
In the field Gateway IP,enter the IP address and press [Enter].
Configuring BootP
The BootP protocol allows you to automatically configure the switch’s IP
address information. Enabling this feature greatly speeds up device
configuration, especially when a large number of devices are installed.
A BootP server must be operating on the network and be properly
configured for this option to work. When this option is enabled, the switch
tries to obtain an IP address from the BootP server.
To configure BootP, do the following:
1.
Select Management Setup Menu from the Main Menu.
2.
Select Network Configuration and then IP Configuration.
3.
In the IP State field, select BOOTP-GET-IP.
This selection toggles between BOOTP-GET-IP and USER-CONFIG
(the default setting).
Configuring Port Security
The port security feature allows each port to learn, or be configured with,
a list of up to 200 MAC addresses that are authorized to access the
network through that port.
To configure the port security, do the following:
1.
Select Device Control Menu from the Main Menu.
2.
Select Port Security Configuration and press [Enter].
3.
Select the stack unit and port number to configure.
4.
Highlight the field Mode, then select LEARNING. Select [Apply] and
press [Enter] to start the learning process. The switch will start to add
the source MAC address of all packets received on the port to the
authorized MAC address list
Or, select the field MAC and manually enter an address. Highlight
[Add] and press [Enter] to add this address to the authorized list.
