Radio-based commissioning
Radio-based commissioning is used to associate STM 550x with other devices by sending a
dedicated radio telegram (a so-called commissioning telegram).
To do so, STM 550x can transmit a dedicated commissioning telegram identifying its relevant
parameters as discussed in chapter 4.2. Transmission of the commissioning telegram is trig-
gered by pressing the LRN button.
Radio-based commissioning mode is intended for applications where NFC commissioning can-
not be used. Radio-based commissioning can be disabled via NFC if the device is operating
in high security mode to prevent transmission of the security key over the air.
6.2
QR code commissioning
QR code-based commissioning reads the required parameters from a dedicated QR code in
the product label (described in chapter 2.2.4). The parameters are encoded according to the
ANSI/MH10.8.2-2013 industry standard.
The QR code on the product label in chapter 2.2.4 encodes the following string:
30S00001Z0123456789ABCDEF01234567830PE6201-K516+S01234567890123

From this content, it is possible to extract the device address (
000012345678
) and the secu-
rity key (
0123456789ABCDEF0123456789ABCDEF
) which can then be used to commission STM 550x
into a receiver and to decrypt and authenticate STM 550x data telegrams as described in
chapter 5.
6.3
Commissioning via NFC interface
STM 550x implements NFC Forum Type 2 Tag functionality as specified in the ISO/IEC
14443 Part 2 and 3 standards.
This NFC functionality can be used to read the device address and to configure the security
key of STM 550x as described in chapter 8.
