An analog signal (4–20 mA) proportional to the flow or density is generated in the

transmitter. This is sent to a downstream automation system where it is monitored to

determine whether it falls below or exceeds a specified limit value. The safety function (mass

flow, volume flow or density monitoring) is implemented in this way.
