Hearth is not required if fireplace is installed on finished
floor.
Fireplace Framing
Fireplace framing can be built before or after the fireplace is set
in place. The fireplace framing should be constructed of metal
studs or 2 x 4 lumber or heavier. The framing top plate or header
may be as close as 3/4 inch to the top of the fireplace. Refer to
Figure 14
for fireplace framing dimensions.

Locating Fireplace
Place fireplace in framing opening. Use the tabs on the side of
the fireplace to attach fireplace to framing. Different tab locations
can be used for wall materials with a thickness of 1/2 inch or
5/8 inch.
See Figure 15.
Framing tabs should fit directly against framing material. Use at
least one nail per bracket to secure in place.
Check squareness of the fireplace prior to securing to framed
opening.

Extended Hoods
If the non-combustible facing material used to finish the fireplace
is over 1 inch thick, an extended hood that extends 2 inch farther
out into the room is recommended. Contract your Empire Dealer
for details.
