Step 12
Initialize the DL server
NOTE
Make sure you connect each DL server power cable to a different
power strip to ensure high availability. The DL server should be powered on
before you perform the procedures in this section.
The Disk Library Console communicates with the Disk Library through the Disk
Library server. The DL server in a DL4106 configuration has a factory-specified
default IP address of 192.168.1.2.
For the DL server to be available on the Disk Library Console, the Windows
workstation (running the Disk Library Console) must be able to access the default IP
address subnet 192.168.1.0 of the DL servers. The three methods for doing this are:
•
If the customer will allow reconfiguration of the Windows network properties,
follow the procedure below. This procedure lets you add an IP address to the
Windows workstation network configuration that is on the same subnet as the
default DL server IP address.
a. Log in to the Windows workstation that is running the Disk Library
Console as a user with administrator privileges.
b. To add an IP address to a Windows 2000 workstation, select Start >
Settings > Network and Dial-up Connections > Local Area Connection >
Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties > Advanced > Add
.
The TCP/IP Address window appears.
c. Enter the IP address and subnet mask; for example, use the IP address
192.168.1.10
, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Click OK to close all the open
pop-up windows.
OR
•
If the customer will not allow reconfiguration of the Windows workstation
network properties, use the service laptop with a serial cable connected to the DL
server. Use HyperTerminal or other terminal emulation software with a serial port
at 19.2K baud. Hyper terminal settings are 19.2K Speed/8 Data Bits/1 Stop bit/
Parity None.
a. Log in as dlroot. Refer to the note below for dlroot login information.
NOTE
Use the username dlroot and password !4CustUse to log in to the
DL server as Hyper terminal. For DL Console login; use username dlroot and
password !4CustUse. Do not share this password with the customer.
