Servicing a CX700 SPE
Handling FRUs
This section describes the precautions you must take and the general
procedures you must follow when removing, installing, and storing
FRUs.
Power Issues and FRUs
The CX700 is designed to be powered up at all times and to be
repaired while powered up. To ensure EMI compliance and proper
air flow, each of the system’s compartments should contain a FRU
and its front bezel must be in place. While it is powered up, you can
service or replace any FRU. Do not remove a faulty FRU until you
have a replacement available.
You can remove any of the three
fan modules while the
CX700
is powered
up. However, if a module is removed for more than two minutes, the SPs
power down.
CAUTION
!
If you need to power down a CX700 SPE, use the power switch on
each SPS to shut off CX700 power.
Never shut off the power supplies to shut down a CX700.
Bypassing the SPS in that manner prevents the system from saving
write cache data to the vault drives, and results in data loss. You
lose access to data, and the storage processor log displays an error
message similar to the following:
Enclosure 0 Disk 5 0x90a (Can’t Assign - Cache Dirty) 0
0xafb40 0x14362c
.
Contact your service provider if this situation occurs.
