Setting Up and Starting a CX700 System
◆
The CX700 back end (BE) addresses each DAE using the FC-AL
address (loop) ID and the DAE enclosure address (EA). You
determine both the loop ID (sometimes called a
bus
ID) and the
enclosure address during the hardware setup. Loop IDs
correspond to the BE port numbers on the CX700 SP; you specify
enclosure addresses with a switch on each DAE.
Setting the Enclosure Address (EA)
For details on DAE configuration, refer to the hardware reference for your
DAE enclosure.
Each DAE on a back-end loop requires a unique enclosure address
(EA) to identify the enclosure and determine disk ALPA addresses.
The first DAE, connected to your CX700 on loop 0, includes the
system vault disks and must be set to EA 0. Subsequent DAEs, the
first on loop 1, 2, or 3, are also EA 0. Identifying DAEs consecutively,
the second EA
on any loop
is 1, the third 2, and so on.
You set the EA with the enclosure address switch. DAE2 EA switches
have one push button for incrementing the address and another for
decrementing it; DAE2Ps have a single push button that increments
in an address loop. Use a pen, paper clip, or small screwdriver to set
the EA as follows.
CAUTION
!
DAE2
drives read their FC-AL physical address only at powerup or
when the drive is reset. To avoid losing access to data,
you must set
the EA in those enclosures when power is off
; you cannot change the
EA while power is on.
Set and read the EA for
DAE2P
enclosures when
power is on and
the back end is not connected
. Refer to your DAE2P setup guide or
hardware reference for instructions on changing a DAE2P
enclosure address.
Set the enclosure address for any
DAE2
disk enclosures before
connecting system power.
◆
The first DAE
on Loop 0
(BE 0), connected directly to the SPE,
must be set to EA 0.
◆
The first DAE on subsequent loops should also be EA 0; set the
EA for the second DAE on a given loop to 1, the third to 2, and so
on.
