5.12 First time system start-up
Interconnecting the units in parallel shall be done with CAT5 shielded ethernet cable with a cable length limited
to 50 meters.
To interconnect the units, open the Master xStorage Compact unit front panel of the communication box (ref 4 of Figure
3. Front view of the Eaton xStorage Compact 20 kW - 40 kW system).
Plug the RJ45 connector into one available port of the ethernet
switch - reference N of

- and pass the cable into the signal gland - reference 2 of

Connect the other RJ45 extremity to the ETH-1 port of the first parallel unit. Close back the Master unit front panel
communication box.
To connect additional parallel unit, connect the ETH-2 port of the first parallel unit to the ETH-1 port of the next parallel
unit. It is possible to daisy chain up to 5 units in parallel.
To install wiring to the connections:
1. Connect the xStorage Compact unit to the LV switchgear of the generating plant.
2. Connect the xStorage Compact unit to the power meter of the installation.
3. Connect the xStorage Compact unit to the connectivity gateway.
The connectivity gateway connects to equipment in the field. It exchanges data via network or Ethernet to the
cloud services.
Configuration of all signal inputs and outputs, as well as application and grid connection parameter value settings will be
done together with the customer in the commissioning phase, according to the sales contract.
MANDATORY ACTION
First time start-up and operational checks must be performed only by authorized Eaton customer
service engineer or Eaton’s certified partner who has completed the xStorage Compact
ESS service training.
