5.3 Install battery packs
CAUTION
Make sure that each battery pack in a string and parallel connected strings are all of the
same battery technology generation. Mixing different generation battery packs can result in
malfunctioning and damage to the system.
MANDATORY ACTION
Take the following precautions when working on or around batteries: Remove watches, rings,
or other metal objects.
Use tools with insulated handles. Wear rubber gloves and boots.
Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries or battery cabinets.
Before connecting or disconnecting a terminal, disconnect the charging source.
Make sure that the battery has not been inadvertently grounded. If it has, remove the source of the
ground. Contact with any part of a grounded battery can result in an electrical shock. The likelihood
of such a shock is reduced if such grounds are removed during installation and maintenance.
Dispose of the batteries according to your local codes for disposal requirements.

5 battery packs (one master battery pack + 4 battery packs) of 72 kg - 74 kg each are installed into the xStorage
Compact unit.
•
Up to 10 battery packs (one master battery pack + 4 or 9 battery packs) of 72 kg - 74 kg each can be installed into the
external battery rack.

An adequate machine lifter is needed to lift the battery packs into the rack. The width of the lifting table must be <1 m
so that it can be moved in and out of the room/container with the battery pack on board.

During battery pack installation or replacement, make sure that you write down all battery pack serial numbers and
information for traceability reasons. It is recommended to measure the open battery voltage. Contact the service
organization using the following e-mail address: [email protected] if more than 2 V voltage difference is
measured between battery pack within a string or if open battery voltage is out of predefined range [79 – 97 V].
Master battery pack open voltage can be measured by forcing the contactor to the close position using
RJ45 bypass (TOP String Com in
Bottom String Com out) while 12V power supply is available.

During battery pack installation, mark the battery type to the label on the battery compartment.

Battery pack terminals plastic covers of top and bottom battery pack of a string (5 battery packs) and master pack
bottom string terminals plastic cover shall be prepared before installation into the rack. Installer shall cut and
smooth the precut holes allowing cable connection.
DANGER
The battery packs carry high AC or DC voltages. Handle with care.
Keep the battery pack cover closed during installation otherwise instructed in this manual.
