Power Flow
The transmission must efficiently transfer the engine's
power to the vehicle's driveline. Knowledge of what
takes place in the transmission is helpful when
troublshooting and making repairs.
Torque Converter Mode: LO Range
1.
Power (torque) from the vehicle's engine is
transferred to the torque converter's splined
cover.
2.
The impeller spins directing oil through the
torque converter.
3.
The oil flow hits the turbine causing the turbine to
rotate. The power is related to the speed
difference between the impeller and the turbine.
4.
The turbine is connected to the interrupt clutch
housing. The interrupt clutch inner hub is
splined directly to the transmission input shaft.
5.
When the interrupt clutch is activated, the
housing and the innner hub are connected to
complete the mechanical link and transfers power
to the input shaft.
