Smooth-Stop

The end of ramp-up relay can be used to control
a by-pass contactor; see Figure 4-5. The
interface relays K12 and K13 supply the proper
120V ac control logic to the by-pass contactor
coil. Relay K12 activates at the end of ramp-up
and relay K13 activates at the beginning of ramp-
down (smooth-stop). When K13 opens, this
opens K12 at the beginning of smooth-stop and
this de-energizes the by-pass contactor coil.
The solid state starter is thus under control during
the ramp-up (soft-start) and ramp-down (smooth-
stop) portions of the motor control cycle.
The by-pass contactor is in control during the run
mode (the period between the ramp-up and
ramp-down). However, if a fault trip occurs, both
the SCRÕs and contactor are turned off, and
motor protection is still maintained. The ÒRESETÓ
button can be activated, once the fault is cleared,
and the motor may be restarted.
Smooth-Stop Option When Used With ÒBÓ
Option (HOA Switch)
1.0 Operating with HOA switch in ÒHÓ position.
1.1 Start motor by moving HOA switch from
off to ÒHÓ position.
1.2 To stop motor using smooth-stop function,
momentarily press the smooth-stop
button, and then move the HOA switch to
the ÒOFFÓ position.
Notice

The HOA switch must be moved to the
ÒOFFÓ position after the smooth-stop button is
pressed, or the motor will restart again after the
smooth-stop is finished.
Smooth-stop is factory set to 30 seconds;
adjustment can be made using potentiometer
(SSTIME) on the smooth-stop board.
2.0 Operating with HOA switch in ÒAÓ position.
2.1 Start motor by closing contact across
TB20-1 and TB20-2. (Located on back
panel.)
2.2 To stop motor using smooth-stop function,
momentarily press the smooth-stop
button, and then open the remote contact
across TB20-1 and TB20-2.
