Application Notes
Example-2:
This is an application where a motor may require
starting current of less than 500%, but for a
longer period of time.
Below is a table showing trip time in seconds vs.
percent current limit: points were taken from
Figure 3-1 of the Instruction Manual. Data was
taken from the 40¡C ambient curves.
Motor: 150 HP, 180 FLA, 460V ac 3-Phase,
Service Factor = 1.00
Assume the starting requirement for the motor in
this application is 350% current limit for 40
seconds.
3.5 X 180 = 630 Amps
If we select Easy-Start ES Model ES180 and set
the DIP switch for the maximum of 180 amps, we
conclude from the table above that the unit would
trip in 24 seconds, at a curr trip setting of 1.00.
You must select an oversized starter;

Model ES260
.
DS1 Setting Ò1111Ó
(Note: The 1st column
must always be used for
the Starting Current
Calibration.)
260.0 Amps:
ÒStartingÓ Current Calibration
- Current Limit Adjust (200-500%) 520-1300
amps.
- Set Current Limit at 630 amps
242% of Easy-Start ES rating, (about 1/6
CW) this is 350% of motor full load amps. At
this ac current level, the trip time will be
slightly greater than 40 seconds.
179.9 Amps:
ÒRunningÓ Current Calibration
- The Extended Time-Current option
automatically enables DIP switch DS2 at the
End-Of-Ramp, and therefore the electronic
overload current circuit would be calibrated to
the combined settings of the two DIP
switches DS1 and DS2.
