8. Resistance Compensation

This section will outline the steps required to perform a resistance compensation. Most battery systems
have certain inter-cell connections (straps) which are longer than the standard connections between
cells/units. These connections are typically between rack tiers. Because the BQMS is installed to the
battery connections, longer connections will increase the measured resistance value.
8.1 Determine Compensation Values
Before an internal resistance value can be compensated, the compensation value first needs to be
determined. The recommended method is to test each cell/unit in the battery bank with the Eagle Eye
IBEX battery tester. The IBEX uses the same measurement technology as the BQMS, so it is the only
other method to determine measure the resistance. It is recommended to measure all the cells/units in
the battery bank with the IBEX and download the data into an easy to read report. This report will be
used to compare against the readings taken by the BQMS in the next steps.
If an IBEX is unavailable, the recommended method to determine a compensation value is to take the
average of all the resistance readings that are not affected by longer inter-cell connections. Then,
subtract the average from the readings with high resistance.
8.2 Performing Cell Compensation with BQMS Monitor
Resistance compensation is done using the BQMS Monitor program which is located on the included
Eagle Eye USB.

, ensure that the Centroid Snet 2 service is not running. If the service is
running, BQMS Monitor will not connect. If connection is successful, the IP address of the
connected BQMS will appear as shown below.
