REAR SUSPENSION
In the following text, there are references to removing/installing
bolts etc. Additional hardware (nuts, washers etc.) that are
removed must always be installed in their original positions
unless otherwise specified. Non specified torque specifications
are as shown in the table contained in Section “A”.
GENERAL
The rear suspension consists of the rear axle and
attachments that secure it to the springs and shock
absorbers. Rear axle removal is covered in the REAR
AXLE section.
Shock Absorber Removal

Raise the rear seat, cargo deck or access panel to
allow access to the top of the shock absorbers.
Remove the vinyl cap (6), hex nut (1), washer (2) and
rubber shock absorber bushing (3) from the lower end
of the shock absorber (Ref Fig. 1) . Remove the hex
nut (1), washer (2) and rubber shock absorber bushing
(3) from the upper end of the shock absorber. Com-
press the shock absorber (4) and remove it from
between the frame mounting bracket and the lower
mounting plate.
Shock Absorber Installation
Install the shock absorber washer (2) with the cupped
surface facing upward and rubber shock absorber
bushing (3) on the top stud of the shock absorber (4).
Insert the top stud into the mouting hole on the frame
bracket then compress the shock absorber (4) with the
shock absorber washer (2) cupped surface facing
downward and the rubber shock absorber bushing (3)
in place, until the bottom stud can be installed into the
lower mouting plate.
Install the rubber shock absorber bushing (3), shock
absorber washer (2) with the supped surface facing
downward on the upper stud of the shock absorber (4).
Install the hex nut (1). Tighten the nut (1) until the
bushing expands to the same diameter as the shock
absorber washer.
Install the rubber shock absorber bushing (3), shock
absorber washer (2) with the cupped surface facing
upward on the lower stud of the shock absorber (4).
Install the hex nut (1). Tighten the nut (1) until the
bushing expands to the same diameter as the shock
absorber washer. Install the vinyl cap (6).
Removal and installation of the shock absorber is same
for both sides of the vehicle.
