4.2.1
Grounding the Unit
The unit must be grounded according to local regulations and codes.
To ground the unit
Loosen the screw of the grounding terminal located on rear panel of the unit. See Figure 2:
EN-204 Rear Panel (page 4).
Attach a properly rated ground cable to the grounding terminal. Make sure the ring/spade
terminal of the grounding cable is properly connected between the screw and rear panel.
Tighten the screw.
Ensure that the other end of the ground cable is connected to a protective earth according
to local regulations and codes.
4.2.2
Connecting the Unit to the Power Supply
There are two methods for powering the unit:
12VDC power supply
802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE Class 3)
Caution:
Before connecting to the power, review the
Electrical Safety Notice and Warnings
(page ix).
Warning:
1.
To prevent bodily injury or damage to the unit, only use properly rated and
approved power supplies.
2.
Make sure that the power supply connection matches the positive and
negative polarity on the unit.
3.
Make sure that the power supply matches the required specifications.
Electrical safety should always be observed.
To power the unit with a DC power supply
Use the provided two-pin spring clamp terminal block connector to connect the positive
and negative leads on the DC power supply to the + and – terminals on the power input
terminal block on the unit’s rear panel.
Power supply specifications:
100-240V, 50/60Hz, 0.5 A
Output: +12VDC,
,1A

To power the unit using PoE (Power over Ethernet)
Insert the RJ45 connector on the Ethernet cable from the network switch into the
encoder’s LAN port. See
Connecting the Unit to the Network
(page 7).
