Starting the engine
Note
Follow the "High ambient temperature" procedure to
start the engine when it is warm.
Warning
Before starting the engine, become familiar with the
controls you will need to use when riding.
Regular ambient temperature
(10 °C/50 °F to 35 °C/ 95 °F):
1) Move the ignition key to
ON
(fig. 26). Make sure both
the green light
N
and the red light
on the instrument
panel come on.
Important
The oil pressure light should go out a few seconds
after the engine has started (page 11).
Warning
The side stand must be fully up (in a horizontal
position) as its safety sensor prevents engine start when
down.
Note
It is possible to start the engine with side stand down
and the gearbox in neutral. When starting the bike with a
gear engaged, pull the clutch lever (in this case the side
stand must be up).
2) Move the cold start lever to the position (B, fig. 28).
3) Check that the stop switch (1, fig. 27) is positioned to
(RUN), then press the starter button (2, fig. 27).
This model is equipped with a servoignition system. To
achieve assisted engine starting, press the button (2) and
release it immediately. Pressing the button (2) operates
automatic engine starting for a maximum period of time
that varies depending on engine temperature. When the
engine has started, the system prevents the starter motor
from turning over. If the engine fails to start, allow at least
2 seconds before pressing the starter button (2) again.
