Operational Mode
After the vehicle reaches a speed of 33 km/h (20
mph), the module will perform a dynamic check of
the tire pressure transmitters. During the dynamic
check, the vehicle speed may fall below 33 km/h (20
mph) but not for longer than one minute. The TPM
module will confirm if the Radio Frequency (RF)
transmissions from each tire pressure transmitters
have been received.
If any component exhibits a fault condition dur-
ing the initialization or dynamic check, the TPM
module will set a DTC and enable the ‘‘Lo Tire’’ LCD
message. A fault can also occur if the TPM module
(after initialization) does not receive any transmis-
sions from the transmitter/ sensor for six consecu-
tive ignition cycles
Diagnostic Mode
This mode is any time that the DRBIII
t
is hooked
up to the DLC and is communicating with the TPM
module. In diagnostic mode, the TPM module does
not monitor or accept the tire pressure sensor/
transmitter signal.
NOTE: This means that you cannot read the
tire pressure sensor/transmitter transmission
information while driving the vehicle with the
DRBIII
T
connected.
Program Mode
The Program Mode enables the TPM module to
record each wheel transmitter ID in the following
order (LF, RF, RR, and LR) in memory. The
module must learn each of the four tire pressure
transmitters’ identifications (ID.) This transmitter
ID ‘‘learning’’ is used so that if the TPM module at
this frequency is receiving any other signals, it
won’t be misinterpreted. Programming is initially
done at the assembly plant. If a TPM module fails
or one or more tire pressure transmitter(s) fails,
after replacement of the faulty component, the TPM
module must be reprogrammed to learn the trans-
mitter ID. The DRBIII
t
places the module in Pro-
gram Mode. It is possible to reprogram only one tire
pressure sensor/transmitter. To program a sensor/
transmitter place a magnet (special tool 8192) or
transponder tool over the end of the LF wheel valve
stem for six seconds. The magnet will energize and
close a reed switch. The transponder tool will excite
the transponder coil. With the reed switch closed, or
the transponder coil energized the transmitter will
transmit the identification (ID) and tire pressure to
the module. After the module has learned that
particular tire pressure sensor/transmitter ID, the
magnet should be moved to each of the other wheels
as directed by the DRBIII
t
. Hold the magnet/
transponder tool at each wheel for six seconds
before moving onto the next wheel. Exit the Pro-
gram Mode. The module will store the locations of
each transmitter ID. Using the DRBIII
t
, verify that
the module programming is complete by looking at
the tire pressure sensor/transmitter ID’s and pres-
sure values.

POWER DOOR ENTRY SYSTEM
The Driver door has three circuits that will signal
a door entry, lock/unlock request:
•
Digital outside door handle input
•
Muxed door lock and interior handle switch
•
Driver door cylinder unlock switch mux
The passenger door has one muxed input: door
lock switch, inside and outside door handle
switches. Each of the muxed switches has variable
amounts of resistance (there by dropping the volt-
age) as an input to the BCM. When the BCM
receives input for a door open request from the
inside or outside door handle, it will turn the
respective unlatch drivers on for a specified time of
100 mSec. If the request is there beyond 10 Seconds,
the BCM will ignore this input and set a stuck
switch trouble code until the stuck conditions dis-
appears.
3.13.1
UNLATCH OUTPUT
When the BCM is required to perform an unlatch
function, the output power wave to drive the doors
off of the primary latch is:
1. Power ON for 63ms.
2. Power OFF for 31ms.
3. Power ON for 94ms.
A single pulse to the unlatch motors causes
breakage of the gears. A dual pulse lessens the
motor torque and provides longer life to the gears.
3.13.2
NEUTRAL RETURN OUTPUT
After every unlatch, the BCM is required to
perform a neutral return function. The Pall in the
latch must be returned before the door is closed,
otherwise mechanical damage may occur. The out-
put power wave to the unlatch motor is:
1. Power ON for 63ms.
2. Power OFF for 63ms.
3. Power ON for 94ms.
A single pulse to the unlatch motors causes
breakage of the gears. A dual pulse lessens the
motor torque and provides longer life to the gears.
3.13.3
DOOR LOCK INHIBIT
When the key is in the ignition and in any
position and either front door is open, the door lock
switches LOCK functions are disabled. The UN-
LOCK functions are still functional. This protects
