§7.4 - Additional risks of lifing above the vehicle floor level
•
The liftgate’s capacity to travel above the cylinder beam and vehicle floor level can cause additional risks that must be taken into
account by the operator while using the liftgate. ALWAYS pay special attention to the following issues.
§ 7.4.1 - Risk of falling
•
K9 models usually travel up to a much higher distance above the ground than conventional liftgates. The potential consequences
of an accidental fall aggravate with the increased lifting height. Falling from heights can cause serious bodily injury or death.
•
Liftgates lifting higher than 6 ft above ground level must be equipped with safety rails along the exposed edges of the platform. For
liftgates with a lower range, DHOLLANDIA recommends that safety rails be used to mitigate the risk of falling.
•
Safety rails may be purchased along with your liftgate at the initial order, or may be purchased and retrofitted to your liftgate later.
Please see www.dhollandia.com for further information or contact your national DHOLLANDIA distributor. See page 4 for contact
info.
•
Falling from heights can cause serious bodily injury or death.
•
To prevent injury or death by falling from the platform:
→
ALWAYS make sure your footing in solid;
→
ALWAYS hold onto the safety rails;
→
ALWAYS maintain 3 points of contact.
§ 7.4.2 - Risk of other persons standing under the platform
•
K9 models usually travel up to a much higher distance above the ground than conventional liftgates. Therefore, there is a greater
risk that somebody could stand below the platform while the platform is situated high above the ground. Lowering the platform
onto a person will cause serious bodily injury or death.
•
Liftgates lifting higher than 6ft above ground level must be equipped with a sound alarm, activated whenever the platform is
lowered.
•
If platform is lowered onto a person, this will cause serious
bodily injury or death.
•
To prevent bodily injury or death by a platform lowering onto
a person:
→
NEVER allow any other person to come near the
working area of the liftgate and its platform;
→
ALWAYS keep visual control over the entire working
area of the liftgate and its platform;
→
Before lowering, ALWAYS inspect the area UNDER and
BEHIND the platform.
