S/PDIF-in/out
(J11)
or
2.5.3 S/PDIF-in/out Connector (S/PDIF-in is optional)
The system board is equipped with the S/PDIF (Sony/Philips Digital
Interface) digital audio interface. S/PDIF is a standard audio file
transfer format that transfers digital audio signals to a device without
having to be converted first to an analog format. This prevents the
quality of the audio signal from degrading whenever it is conver ted
to analog.
S/PDIF-in is optional. The system board comes standard with the
S/PDIF-out connector which is a 3-pin connector at location J11.
With the S/PDIF-in supported, J11 will be a 5-pin connector as
shown above. One card-edge bracket, mounted with S/PDIF ports,
will be provided as an option. Install the card-edge bracket to the
system chassis then connect the audio cable connector to J11. Make
sure pin 1 of the cable connector is aligned with pin 1 of J11. Now
connect external speakers or a device that suppor ts digital output
to the S/PDIF ports that are on the bracket.
