could lead to injury or death.
Cautions in these instructions for use highlight potential hazards that if disregarded
could lead to equipment damage or failure.
3.1 Risk Assessment
Bed frames used with the mattress system can
vary greatly depending on the specific healthcare
setting (i.e. hospitals, nursing homes, home care
etc). It is the responsibility of the carer to carry
out the necessary risk assessment to ensure
suitable product compatibility and the safety of
the patient.
Before a patient uses the mattress system, a
risk assessment must be performed on a patient
by patient basis. The risk assessment should
include, but is not limited to:
•
Product combinations (bed frame, mattress,
side rails etc.)
•
Extent of tissue damage (if any)
•
Entrapment
•
Patient falls
•
Small adults (and children)
•
Patients who lack capacity
•
Unauthorised people with access to the
controls
3.2 Contraindications
Patient conditions for when using a hybrid
mattress system is a contraindication are as
follows:
•
Unstable spinal injury
•
Exceeds maximum patient weight of the
mattress
•
Confused, agitated or restless
(risk assessment required)
Additional contraindications when in alternating
mode:
•
Cervical or skeletal traction

•

Other contraindications may be relevant which
are specific to the patient or care environment.
3.3 Mattress Load
The mattress is suitable for patients weighing up
to 254kg/40st when used with the pump. When
not in use with the pump, the system is suitable
for patients weighing up to 226kg/35st.
The maximum patient weight can be located
on the top cover. The minimum user weight for
the mattress will depend on a combination of
the bed surface the mattress is used on, the
physical size of the user and the treatment
program in place for the user.
A risk assessment must be conducted by clinical
staff to ascertain that the combinations of
products are suitable for all users, especially for
low weight (typically less than 40kg) & bariatric
users.
