Depending on how long the unit was switched
on, the cooling fan continues running after the
lamp has been switched off. Do not switch the
unit off at the power switch or unplug it while the
fan is still running.
1. Polymerisation
Remove the handpiece from the holder and posi-
tion the light guide close to the filling.
Switch the light on by pressing the button on the
handpiece briefly. Avoid contacting unpoly-
merised filling material as it would polymerise on
the light guide and impede light transmission.
Also avoid contacting cured filling material or
bonding agent as a thin, reactive smear layer re-
mains on the surface of cured filling material.
(This layer ensures that the material bonds to
composite or bonding agent perfectly).
The curing time is provided by the compo-
site/bonding agent manufacturers‘ instructions.
Before operating the Degulux
®
soft-start, a pho-
tometer should be used regularly to check for ad-
equate lighting power as, for example, cured fill-
ing material may adhere to the light guide (refer
to section H “Maintenance”).
2. Preventing overheating
Once the fan in the handpiece has cooled it
properly, the fan switches off automatically.
If the Halogen lamp is on continuously for longer
than 3 minutes or switched on intermittently with
only brief intervals in between, the overheat cut-
out may be activated. All 4 LEDs on the control
panel of the unit flash to indicate that it is over-
heated.
After cooling for approximately 2 - 3 minutes, the
Degulux
®
soft-start is ready for use again. Do not
switch the unit off or unplug it while it is cooling.
H. Servicing and cleaning
1. Servicing
Check the light guide, housing components and
supply lines regularly to ensure that they are in-
tact. Contaminated or damaged light guides may
impede the performance of the light consider-
ably.
Repairs may only be carried out by authorized
service technicians.
2. Cleaning
The Degulux
®
soft-start can be cleaned with a
soft cloth moistened with an alcohol-based disin-
fectant. Do not use acetone or other strong sol-
vents!
3. Disinfection/Sterilizing the light guide
Before use, the glass sheathed light guide must
always be sterilized in steam at a temperature of
up to 125 °C.
The standard hygiene procedures for dental
practices must be heeded.
4. Replacing the Halogen lamp
Only use an original Degulux
®
soft-start Halogen
lamp as this is the only lamp which attains the per-
formance quoted and polymerizes perfectly.
For safety reasons, the lamp must only be
switched on with the cone fitted.
Switch the unit off, unplug it and allow the Halo-
gen lamp to cool.
